"Grotto" by Kyle Wood

"Grotto" - 9" x 12" Oil on Canvas

Here is the latest oil painting on my easel and it is called "Grotto", meaning cave-like or recessed dwelling. The inspiration for this painting came from some photos and observations of the waterfalls and ponds at The Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, Texas. I have been to many zoos throughout Texas and this one is perhaps the most impressive one. What intrigued me to paint this was how the light was being captured through the trees, the rock boulders, and the waterfall spilling over into a serene reflecting pool. Lots of unity and harmony here with cool colors of blue and green playing against the warm reds, oranges, and browns in the boulders. To intensify the effect of the lighting, I added a shadow in the foreground to help draw the viewers eye up into the light. The waterfalls themselves are inviting because of their cool colors and there is plenty of shade underneath the boulders. What a refreshing place to be on a hot summer day!

This painting is available for sale. Please visit my website at http://www.kwoodfineart.com/ for other fine oil paintings and blogs.
