"Spring Street Memories" is an oil painting based on a trip
that my wife and I took on a trip to Eureka Springs, Arkansas
in the summer of 2007. At the time, we had just got married
and this was our honeymoon, which we both enjoyed.
While we were there, we got an opportunity to take a
horse drawn carriage ride through the historical downtown district.
Eureka Springs is full of old charm, elegant old buildings, and
there are plenty of things to see and do here. I was most
intrigued of the view of the Basin Park Hotel, which was built in 1905
and the Flatiron Building, which is across the street. Thematically,
I chose to paint this scene in the 1930s. The additions of the
the vintage automobiles, people of the times, and remnants of and
old streetcar track, add so much more charm to the painting
and it fits the character and mood of Eureka Springs, Arkanas.
I liked how the painting turned out, that I decided to enter it in
2010 PaintAmerica Top 100 Competion. Fortunately, I got lucky and
was selected as one of the top 100 finalist. In a few weeks, I will be shipping
the painting off to Coutts Musuem in El Dorado, Kansas, where it begin
on a traveling exhibit across America to various gallery/museum venues.
The exhibit will continue through the early part of 2012.
It is indeed quite an honor to be selected as one of the finalist.
This shows attracts many talented artists across America and
I am pleased that I am getting an opportunity to be part of it.
This is my second showing through the PaintAmerica Association and
I have found it to be good fit for the type of artwork I do.
