Marsh Islands by Judith Bailey

It was getting late in the day and the year when I spotted these little islands of trees casting long mauve shadows over the marsh grass. The trees grow on little high ground places in the midst of the grass, places where they can take root because their seeds don't get swept away by the rising tide. I did a red ground to start with and you can see that where I scraped down, a technique called sgraffito. This was partly brush work and also painting knife. It was very difficult to get a good shot of it due to reflections so it is much more impressive in person. 12 x 9, oil on a panel, $149, framed.
