I tried a different approach with this painting. I wanted to keep the background colorful and loose. I found the contrasting colors of the larkspur and sunflowers eye stopping. I applied the paint with a palette knife, creating the texture I was going for.

I happened upon this iris garden on a small country road that was lined with beautiful spring flowers. I could resist stopping to check the iris garden out. She had a yard lined with these lacy beauties.

I created this a couple years ago during the Ellis County Art Association paint out. This year's event starts  Friday, May 17th and runs through May 26th. Paintings will be on display at Art on the Square, Waxahachie, Texas.    

On Sunday, May 19, I will have this painting on display for sale at the Hidden Garden Tour in Ft Worth. This is a fund raiser for the Historic Ft. Worth.  I will be on location at 2333 Winton Terrace, Ft Worth, Texas.

This tree was an explosion of color.  The warm leaves against the cool sky seem to vibrate.  I started with an undercoat of black. I sketched in the tree branches and building.  I approached it by painting in blocks of color, carving out the details. Another fun time with color.

I snagged more of my neighbor, Amy's sunflowers. I set up this still life in the sun. The heat from the sun will melt the flowers, so I worked fast.  Pre-mix paints and a palette knife help with the process.

I created this from a couple of field studies and a photos from El Tesoro.  El Tesoro is a camp for kids in the Granbury Area. A lovely river runs through it with colorful views.  A group of plein air painters were granted access.  We hung out, painted and enjoyed the solitude of this camp.

They have spent a lot of time and money developing a new section of the garden. It comes complete with stream and new pond.  The flowers are at their peak now and filled with color.
