This acrylic on paper painting is inspired by the marshes and wetlands that are seen throughout my region in northern California.  This particular place is south of Napa and north of the San Francisco Bay, or the Carquinez Straits.  The colors of this marshy area are heightened in fall and winter, the skies become atmospheric.  The abstracted landscape is reminiscent of the feeling of the scene found at Grizzly Island where I often paint en plein aire, at Rush Ranch.  Abstractions are more about feeling and expression.

The painting is matted and shipped in its mat with a protective backing board, ready for framing.  It may be framed in a standard sized (off the shelf) 16" x 20" frame, the outside measurement of the mat.

This is my first post with Landscape Artists International, so I thought I'd begin with my most recent painting, above.  I love to paint in acrylic on paper - it's very spontaneous!  I also work in oil on canvas, as well as acrylic on canvas.   More on my work, styles and exhibits may be found on my website:

I paint on location, travel, and visit current art exhibits throughout California.  My travels take me beyond California occasionally,  most often within the Western states of the U.S.  I recently returned to home (Northern California) from an artist residency in southern Wyoming, where I was in residence for the month of August at Brush Creek Arts Foundation, Saratoga, Wyoming.   My art news and current events are found on my blog ~ I'll be posting more frequently now that my summer travels are over and I'm back in the studio:
