Original Colorado Landscape Oil Painting, Western Landscape "The Old Loading Dock" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

When my husband and I bought our home this old loading dock was left on the property. For us, it’s a symbol of the days when it was still a working ranch. The hills behind it change their disposition and color throughout the day. This painting shows the land in midsummer glory.

Original Pastel Geese Painting "Geese at Corn Lake" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

Corn Lake is a local fishing hole in Grand Junction. It’s populated by a wide variety of waterfowl. I loved the way the light hit these geese on a bright and sunny December afternoon.

Original Western Landscape Painting "Working The Release Pen" by Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

A few years ago I was given permission to photograph the sheep handlers working the release pen at the Meeker International Sheepdog Trials. It was fascinating! I watched as the border collies and cowboys and horses wrangled the unruly Meeker sheep, gathering them, penning them, and releasing them for each sheepdog participating in the trials. Working the Release Pen won the People’s Choice award at the 2006 Meeker Classic International Art Contest.

Original Pastel Colorado Landscape Painting "The Meadow by Lou's" by Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

My sister lives at the other end of the valley from me. Her views are beautifully pastoral and her home looks across this gorgeous meadow. It’s lovely in all seasons. In the winter it fills with Canada geese, in the spring it turns a magnificent chartreuse as the field begins to grow. This piece was painted in the middle of June, when the valley seems to sing with happiness!
