Local Terrain, New Contemporary Landscape Painting By Sheri Jones

Local Terrain
9x12 on canvas

This was painted on location in Granbury. It is on the land of a rural farm and has horses, cows and donkeys.  My goal on this day was to paint cows, but they did not make an appearance. So I scratched that idea and focused on the beautiful landscape. It's been great here with warm temperatures and soft breezes.
This is available for purchase. Email me for more info.

Floral Landscape | Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Garden Walk by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Original SOLD

I have always had visions of the perfect flower garden in my head and this small oil painting really captures it.  A white picket fence, an abundance of flowers, bee's buzzing...something like a Disney garden with no weeds allowed.

SOLD
When I saw this garden, in front of a charming cottage in North Carolina Blue Ridge Mts., it was like a dream come true.  Of course, I had to paint it.

detail

I am not blessed with a green thumb, so this was as close as I could get to my fantasy.  I hope you enjoy it!

When I first moved to Florida, I remember going to a plant nursey and the owner said to me "You are in the land of milk and honey, everything grows here."  Not true!  In the summer, it is so hot, my plants die or struggle to survive.  This year we have had so much rain, everything has rotted!  Now, Washington State, British Columbia, England....that is where beautiful flowers grow!

Jimmy Longacre_subjective realist landscape paintings_WHAT'S IT ABOUT?

Knowing what I'm trying to accomplish in a painting is primary for guiding every other decision I'll have to make in creating a composition.  If I'm simply beguiled by an attractive "thing" (tree, barn, creek, whatever…), I'll wind up taking dictation from that thing without thinking through how I can compose it so that it will emphasize what I find beautiful about the scene.  That, for me, is the fun and satisfaction in painting.

Almost without exception, composing requires stopping to think about what I want to say and what I have to work with.  It's rare that I find something that's ready to paint just as it is.  For instance, I may try several ideas for cropping the scene and identifying the focal center.  I may then want to remove unrelated clutter, rearrange what's there for better size and balance relationships, or any number of other things that I feel will give my primary concept emphasis.  I find that my best paintings are about one thing, and one thing only.  That concept must be the star of the show. Everything else plays a supporting role, and a lot of what's there won't even make the cut, when I've answered the question, "What's it about?"

SOLD - "What Dreams Are Made Of" Print on Canvas by Niki Gulley

JUST SOLD • "What Dreams Are Made Of" ©2017 by Niki Gulley
Four 24" x 24" canvases to form a 48" x 48" quadriptych • artist-embellished print on canvas

In this painting, I wanted you to feel like a little kid again – laying on the ground and staring up into the treetops without a care in the world. I hope you experience the joy of being surrounded by nature and the beauty in this autumn kaleidoscope of colors.

Here is the artist-embellished print on canvas, "What Dreams Are Made Of," hanging in its new home!

Canvas Prints now Available:  Four 24" x 24" canvases are stretched on 3/4 inch stretcher bars with the image continuing around the edges to form a 48" x 48" quadriptych that does not need to be framed, just like the original . I have also added thick paint in some of the leaves and trunks to add even more texture and making each print one of a kind. Finally, I have coated the canvases with a UV varnish to protect the paintings. The canvases can be hung right up next to each other or spread apart by a few inches to come out to a maximum of 53" x 53". I can also make other sizes or stretch "What Dreams Are Made Of" on deep 1 and 1/2 inch stretcher bars for an additional fee. Please contact me at Niki Gulley for more information on the original painting or canvas prints.

I enjoy the solitude of getting my morning exercise on this road, with nothing to keep me company except the birds and wildflowers and the beautiful canopy of trees.  When I return home from my walk, I feel ready to attack the day ahead.

I cruised thru the Botanical Gardens one day during by lunch hour and discovered the Tulip Magnolia tree in bloom. I packed my gear and went out the next day and painted this. Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, VanGogh landscape, "Tribute to Vincent" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil

Each week our art group appoints one member as leader.  The leader, decides what type of project we will work on that day.  A few weeks ago, Faye was our leader, and as her project, she brought it images of VanGogh and Monet paintings for us to re-create.

I chose his very famous "Wheatfield with Cypresses" . Actually, I chose one of three similar paintings that carry that name.

I have always wanted to give his famous and distinctive swirling brushwork a try.  It was an interesting experiment, one that I will probably do again.

Years ago, I spent some time studying the masters  and duplicating some of their works.  I found it to be very informative.  Here is one of my attempts at Degas' work, "Woman Bathing"
