I'm feeling grateful for the simple things, like our lake views and beautiful fall colors. This sunrise was viewed on one of our early morning fishing trips. This is one of my husbands favorite spots.

First Light's Glow

I painted this using a new color palette, introducing a viridian.  It is on the cool side of green. It leans toward the blue so it was useful for mixing greens on the cooler side. I love the effect it gave with this morning sunrise. This is a local landscape with Comanche Peak in the background.

Getting up early to witness a beautiful sunrise was a way to reward myself for going to work.  Now that I am retired I can paint those sunrises from photos I took every day, 5 days a week.  One of life's sweet rewards.

I'm pleased to say this painting sold at the Lake Granbury Art Association recently. We are having a membership ship show at the Shanley House in Granbury at 224 N. Travis St. Granbury, TX.

This painting is based on one I created on location in Fredericksburg. I wanted to push it in a different direction.  Using the palette knife I blocked in colors building up the layers.  I built this one square at a time.
