I painted this piece before leaving for my trip to Kauai (which was magnificent). I am on a mission to delve more deeply into the expression of painting in the abstract. It is very challenging for me, having worked representational for so many years. It seems most of us artists head in the direction of abstract at some point in our careers. For me it is a new form of expressing myself by painting what I feel and not what I see. This doesn't mean I am abandoning my representational work, I think this only adds to it.

KMA2809 The Invisible Truth by Colorado contemporary painter Kit Hevron Mahoney

I am anxious to create more of these vibrant mixed media pieces as they have gotten such a positive response. The poly resin I have poured on top of the painting makes the colors rich and saturated, far beyond what a varnish does. This is one I wish you might see in person as the blues in the lower half of the little triptych are iridescent and I think the composition leaves the viewer with lots to ponder in their own imaginations.

KMA2737 Playful Touch by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney

I have just returned from a very wet but relaxing trip to Kauai. I had painted this piece before leaving and am planning to do some of my small daily paintings this week inspired from my trip.
This painting was created from a small abstract I painted as a study for a larger one. The real joy in this kind of painting is letting it take its own course using my original study only as a starting point. It is such a fun journey working from the intuitive.
