Poppies still remain one of my most favorite flowers to paint. I came across these on an early morning walk last month with my dog Farley who impatiently waited as I photographed them. (He has much different preferences on our walks!) This is a scene off Landmark Road in Middleburg, Virginia, where I will be having a show in the spring. I've slowed down my daily painting to do larger pieces for the show. 

I was thrilled to get an email from a woman in Dundee, Florida saying she and others have read my memoir Crackers and Oranges and enjoyed it. They would like to get together some time, and I would enjoy that too. I left there at 18, long, loonnggg ago. I would love to meet them and compare stories.

BOUGAINVILLEA AND UMBRELLA, 6X8 SOLD

While driving to the post office, I passed this charming garden spot.  The blooming bougainvillea and garden umbrella in contrasting color, caught my eye.

I so enjoy doing these small paintings.  I have little desire to do larger ones these days.  This give me instant gratification and tomorrow, I have the thrill of starting over on a new project.

Van Gogh would have liked these flowers. They are pretty ornate, with little white dots all over them, so the big decision is: how much detail? I may go back and put a bit of blue in the sky, even though there wasn't any, just so the painting doesn't seem quite so divided into three parts.
