Blue Haze Falls..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I am in love with unusual formats on which to paint, this long landscape support is one of my favorites.

I admit it can be tricky though. The scene is so stretched the artist has to keep in mind not to make everything explained and focused.

My falls area itself is my main area, or at least I hope it is.

I welcome comments, just be kind.Ha!

This image is 9.6" x 25.6" and is unframed.

$450 plus S/H

Fall Dazzle..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Just finished this one. I worked on Sennelier sanded paper, a rust/tan color.
I knew I wanted the contrast of the blues against that complement.

This one is mostly made up although I did start with a photo I had of a waterfall.  In Sketch Club, I played  on the Ipad , overlapping some more water and rocks.

Painting waterscapes always relaxes me, I love to do them!
I hope you like this one.

Unframed this image is 13.6" x 17.6"

$400 plus S/H

Valley Vantage Point...Landscape...Acrylic...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

This one is completely 'doodled' on the IPad first. I turned a few old paintings upside down, just to use the colors for this one.. I work in several layers in the Sketch Club app, and then when I am happy I flatten them.. Voila.. I have a new creation!

It's such a fun way to get a start on a painting.

Out of the mess came this.

I find this very relaxing while I watch TV at might, just work out some compositions from which I might paint the next day.

This image is 8" x 8" unframed painting and is on an Ampersand Museum board. I quite like these surfaces, they have that tooth I was mentioning in my last post. Something for my paint to grab.

$120 Plus S/H

Coastal Edge...Acrylic Seascape...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I had a few smooth gesso boards in my studio and decided to test the waters (excuse my pun) with acrylics.

I have to say I don't love this surface, it's way too smooth for me, I prefer some tooth to the substrate. However a challenge is always good for us, is it not?

I am an intuitive artist and when I paint any kind of waterscape, I generally make the up image.
I sometimes have a photo to get me started, but they will never be the same as any reference. I feel so long as I capture the 'essence' of the photo I am fine.

I will often do some work prior to actually painting the subject, on my IPad with a stylus, and see what I can 'nut' out.. This is the result.. I hope you like it.

This image is an 8" x 8" acrylic on smooth gesso board

Painted Sky..Landscape...Acrylic...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I decided to get out my FULL BODIED Acrylics today and do some small landscapes. I have finished this one, so thought I would post it.

I am teaching an ACRYLICS ON CANVAS tomorrow for the Williamson Arts Guild in Georgetown, as well as a demonstration called THE LAYERED LANDSCAPE for their group.

As I have not painted in the tubed acrylics in a while, I thought I better get up to snuff.
Hope you like this one..

 Image size is 8" x 10" (unframed)
$165 including S/H within the contiguous USA.

Zig Zag Lane .... Acrylic...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I am in an experimental mode right now. ZIG ZAG LANE  is the third I have done in different media.. I have not posted the others and may never do so..:((

I am looking for a sharp contrast in my colors as always. This is done an Richeson board again, a deep rust color.

These boards are good for so many mediums..Try them, I think you would have fun.

This scene is completely made up, but I know several of you have walked up this kind of ZIG ZAG LANE  before, I know I have.

Heads of Ayr by Char Fitzpatrick | Scottish Landscape

11"x13"
Watercolor and gouache highlights

Heads of Ayr by Char Fitzpatrick

I enjoy painting on location when I travel. Watercolors are very portable and lend themselves to quick weather changes. I enjoy the challenge of trying to capture fleeting moments. In this painting I enhanced the clouds and choppy waves with gouache.

Santa Fe Church in Snow by Char Fitzpatrick | Watercolor Landscape

8x11
Watercolor

Watercolor is a beautiful medium for capturing light. The other thing it can do is "save" light, as in this case, where I left the white of the paper to act like snow.

Storm Over Ayershire by Char Fitzpatrick | Scotland Landscape | Seascape

11"x 13"
watercolor, gouache highlights

Storm Over Ayrshire by Char Fitzpatrick

The weather changed very quickly while I did the first watercolor of this scene. I was frozen to the bone, but determined to capture the brooding mood as the clouds swept over like black locomotives in this, the second painting.

Daily Abstract Painting, "Texture" 20x16", Mixed Media

If you follow my blog, you probably are aware of my interest in abstract art.  Although I will continue with my impressionism paintings, I do have a growing desire to dabble in the abstract area.

This painting is a study of texture.  I wanted to keep color to a minimum.

I used molding paste, acrylics and oil pastels to achieve the desired effects.

Thank you for viewing my daily paintings.  Enjoy your weekend!

Texas Bluebonnets, 8x10 Oil on Canvas by Carmen Beecher

NFS

Van Gogh would have liked these flowers. They are pretty ornate, with little white dots all over them, so the big decision is: how much detail? I may go back and put a bit of blue in the sky, even though there wasn't any, just so the painting doesn't seem quite so divided into three parts.
