Rim Light...Landscape..Pastels...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

Call me a romantic, but don't you just love to watch the clouds form especially with an approaching storm?

Well I do.. :))

I had no reference with this one, I just 'felt' the clouds and the movement.

Pastels are such a great medium to portray seascapes and skyscapes. One can 'sculpt' the shapes so seductively, it's as though the artist can become one with the image.

See I told you I was a romantic..

This image is 12.75" x 20" unframed and is for sale.

$295 Plus S/H

Prints of this image and more of my art are available at Fine Art America:

Heads of Ayr by Char Fitzpatrick | Scottish Landscape

11"x13"
Watercolor and gouache highlights

Heads of Ayr by Char Fitzpatrick

I enjoy painting on location when I travel. Watercolors are very portable and lend themselves to quick weather changes. I enjoy the challenge of trying to capture fleeting moments. In this painting I enhanced the clouds and choppy waves with gouache.

Mt. Hood by Char Fitzpatrick | Watercolor Landscape

11x15
Watercolor and pastel

Mt. Hood by Char Fitzpatrick

I sometimes mix mediums. Watercolor and pastels seem to get along very well. I let the subject matter tell me how much to use one thing or another. Pastels can give a real punch to a soft watercolor.

Clouds Over Ireland by Char Fitzpatrick | Watercolor Landscape

11" x 13"
Watercolor

Clouds Over Ireland by Char Fitzpatrick
©2014 Char Fitzpatrick

The clouds in Ireland are stunning. They billow by casting hurried shadows over the land. While I sat on a stone to paint this, a flock of sheep pell-melled down either side of me, the sheepdog fast in chase. When I turned around to look, the farmer sat quietly upon his horse on the road above me.

Barges on the Rhein by Char Fitzpatrick | Oil Painting | Germany Landscape

11" x 13"
Oil on board

Barges on the Rhein by Char Fitzpatrick
©2014 Char Fitzpatrick

At one time I lived close to the Rhein river in Germany. It is a fascinating, bustling river, with loads of water traffic from other countries passing through. One year it flooded dramatically, and though I worked from a photograph I took, I attempted to paint it in a loose manner in the studio, as if I were sitting on the bank capturing the mood live.

Storm Over Ayrshire by Char Fitzpatrick

The weather changed very quickly while I did the first watercolor of this scene. I was frozen to the bone, but determined to capture the brooding mood as the clouds swept over like black locomotives in this, the second painting.

Almost a Rainbow, 10x8 Original Landscape Oil Painting by Carmen Beecher

$189, Click to Purchase
This was a busy sky over San Miguel de Allende. It had light, darkness, rain, and almost a rainbow. There was a lot going on.

Speaking of a lot going on, yesterday morning I saw the real Rosie the Riveters on TV at the White House. In their 80s and 90s, I got the feeling they could still pop-rivet today if needed. They are vivacious and smart, just what I want to be when I grow up.

Day 39, Drifting white clouds plein air oil landscape painting by BECKY JOY

© 2013 Becky Joy     Day 39, Clouds      oil    6 inches x 6 inches

 Hi everyone,
I didn't paint yesterday. I had a family situation come up and went to my daughter's late on Thursday night. Yesterday I spent the whole day there. She has been having a difficult time lately. She has three children, has been going to school full time, 4 years and now starting her last year. This summer she has been going through a divorce which, like a lot of cases, hasn't been easy. She needed my help yesterday, so I put the paints and computer away and went over there to help. Everything is better, but we are all tired. My oldest grandson is off to football camp in CA now (his second year of varsity as a sophmore and a great kid). The next one, a young teenage girl has been off doing girl things with a friend, each staying overnight at each other's houses (and last night I took them to the movies). The youngest girl who will be in the third grade has just been playing with her neighborhood friend, back and forth to each others homes. All is well there and now all is well with my daughter. I cleaned, made dinner and took some pressure off of her for the day.

So, on to my painting today. I took it easy today, went out on my back patio and painted the passing clouds, a peaceful scene. I also gathered four paintings and frames that I will be shipping off to the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. That was the extent of my day and I don't think I'll be making up the painting I missed yesterday. In the scheme of things, big deal. I may have one or two less paintings.
