Fall is in full swing here in Colorado. The autumn days in Colorado are truly magical and I am savoring each and everyone in this season. Every year I wish I could store the full memory and the feeling from the warmth, color, and crystal clear days we experience. I can only hope to translate those feeling onto canvas. "Autumn Gold" was a painted from one of those days at the Maroon Bells. As I was unable to do my annual fall trek to Aspen this year, therefore, I painted this scene from a photo taken last year. This year I was fortunate enough to visit NYC which inspired some really exciting new ideas that I plan to start this week. Spanish Garden Pathway..Watercolor Landscape..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I decided to get back to my roots so to speak and do a few watercolors. This one is the first in a while.

I have missed this medium. As with many artists who paint in all media, sometimes some of them get left in the dust. I have been doing a lot of pastels lately too as you might all know.

 I think I am due for a change.

Coconut Shadows..Pastel..Semi Abstracted...Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Believe it or not this used to be horses. I decided I could do better, so I wiped it with alcohol and a rag and then splashed acrylics over the surface. The surface is a large Ampersand board by the way.

After my surface had dried, I worked my image into and over the marks, quite a challenge, but I think by now you all know how I love to challenge myself.

The photo reference was one I took on my recent trip to Maui.

This was great fun to do, although it took a while.

The size of this one is 24" x 36" unframed on board.

Glow......Pastel Landscape..........Texas Artist.......Rae Andrews

This is another pre-tinted textured pastel board .. It originally was a soft creme color, and I tinted parts of it with red/orange liquid acrylics. 

The whole board is now covered in pastel, some layers a little thinner than others, to allow the underneath colors to show through.

I really love this technique, it keeps my colors different to the dullness of the actual manufactured board colors.
