Leaves..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I love to challenge myself with design.

This was 'test' painting in readiness for a workshop I did.

I don't like to pre-draw images for the most part, and instead let my paints run and fold into each other making interesting designs into which I can 'fit' a subject ...

I used Golden Liquid Acrylics with a small squirt bottle to start this one. If one leaves a lot of white and interesting negative shapes, they have a better chance of finding a subject and bring it into focus.

I worked with WATERCOLORS to get the leaf shape, and of course, NEGATIVE PAINTING.

New Online Bin Art

ONLINE ART MARKET: New Items
BIN ART $200 and less.
It is so gratifying to have my paintings find new homes.
I have so many new ideas to explore and your purchases are helping me clear out the studio and have my artwork enjoyed and appreciated.
Here are 4 more paintings just added to my web ONLINE ART MARKET bin art.
These are not only paintings but also memories of the wonderful times I had finding and photographing the subjects to express on canvas.
How lucky am I to have found this career and my partners at Brushstrokes to share this world of creativity.

The pink poppies are from our Denver Botanic Gardens, the Flatirons are, of course, Boulder. The other landscapes were painted after an amazing trip to France which has a plethora of inspiration to paint!

Grasses..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I am on a roll now with DUSTING. It works so well on very textured surface, but beware, you can overdo this technique.
Here is the above image with additional DUSTING.
 I LOVE this technique!

I had this odd off cut of paper, and have no idea what it was though. It's a dark maroon color and is sanded. Any ideas?

Anyway, I had mounted it onto some archival foam core a few years ago so why not use it?

The format is quite elongated and poses problems or should I say, challenges to the artist, composition wise.

I chose to do just tall brambles and grasses, really playing with the various textures.
I used an alcohol wash under painting in parts, let it dry and then worked the pastels over the top.

I don't usually do this technique of underneath washes, but this paper took the wet media so why not?

I hope you like it.

This image is 8" x 22" unframed.

Shadowed Stroll..Landscape..Pastels...Rae Andrews

Well here is the finished painting.
I am happy with it, but of course as most artists, I find areas I could have done better. Oh well, back to the studio..
I do love this surface of Kitty Wallis paper..
I did not use any watermedia underneath this, it's all pastel.

This image is for sale..

Glow......Pastel Landscape..........Texas Artist.......Rae Andrews

This is another pre-tinted textured pastel board .. It originally was a soft creme color, and I tinted parts of it with red/orange liquid acrylics.

The whole board is now covered in pastel, some layers a little thinner than others, to allow the underneath colors to show through.

I really love this technique, it keeps my colors different to the dullness of the actual manufactured board colors.
Enjoy...

KM3005 Lucious by Denver Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (24x36 oil, garden, poppies)

This is another commission that was painted for the new Banner Health being built in Fort Collins, CO. I am thrilled to have been commissioned to do 4 paintings for them. It is rewarding to have paintings placed where they are used to uplift. Recently I was asked why I paint the subjects I am drawn to. After much thought I realize that my place in this world is to communicate the beauty of this world. I feel that is who I am as an artist. I have fought being a person that makes "pretty" pictures throughout my career and now realize that I want to add beauty, joy and positive energy to the world and not anything negative. Poppy gardens and paintings are one of my signature subjects. Although we still have snow on the ground it is fun to anticipate spring being right around the corner here in Denver and all those poppies are getting ready for another season to inspire. 24”x36” original oil unframed See more paintings on my blog Visit my website Daily Painters of Colorado
