Afternoon Light on the Rocks

Long day here in the studio. Still trying to catch up on things. Why does it take so long? Is it me?

This plein air painting is another one from the Columbia River. I was in Washington looking across the river into Oregon during the late afternoon. Almost all was in sunlight. The rocks had a very warm feel and look to them with the shadows having the most contrast in the scene.

This was at a very little used park that had an old orchard and lots of blackberries. One thing I always do while in Oregon during the summer is pick blackberries. I guess it brings back childhood memories of picking the berries, then we got a pie. Now I don't bother with the crust, but I did make a blackberry cobbler. Mmmm... wish I could have brought some home to Arizona.

Columbia River plein air painting by BECKY JOY

Morning on the Columbia oil 6x6" 

This is one of the first paintings that I painted while at the Northwest Plein Air in Hood River. I was on the Washington side of the river looking toward the morning sun in the east. I liked the slight bit of warmth in the clouds contrasting with all the cool colors of the distant mountains and water. A very subtle painting with variations in the grays. As with all my small paintings the shipping is free in the US and the painting comes with a small black wrought iron display easel.

I spent quite a bit of time on the computer today just catching up after being gone for two weeks. My access on the phone was limited, but it was very useful. I like using my new smart phone. Tomorrow, more catching up and maybe a little painting.
