Original Georgia Landscape, Tree, Mountain Oil Painting "Mountain Air" by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

Recently, I painted with a nationally known oil painter in the mountains of north Georgia, my home state. The weather was gloomy in the mornings but the sun came out in the late afternoon to light this delightful dirt path whose shadows caught my eye. Let's Take A Walk, a small oil landscape painting is a result of this long winding path with a distant range of mountains!

Original Georgia Landscape Painting "Lindenberg Lake II" by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

FRESH OFF THE EASEL....

While on a plein air painting outing, I was searching for a subject that had depth and contrast. This bank of color, the lily pads floating on the water,  and the reflections did "It" for me! Lindenberg Lake II, an oil landscape painting of a North Carolina lake was begun en plein air and completed in my studio. The painting is gallery wrapped so it doesn't require framing!

Original Georgia Marsh Land Landscape Painting "Quiet Marshes" by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

The beautiful southern marshes have many moods. "Quiet Marshes" introduces you to the subtleties of a soft sultry lighting experienced in midmorning on the marsh lands of the Southeast. This landscape oil painting is inviting you to move through the grasses and view the vibrating colors and textures often missed! The next time you look at marsh grasses enjoy their variations of color as they recede in the landscape!

Original Georgia Landscape Oil Painting"Summer Serenity" by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

"Summer Serenity", a landscape oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas, is inspired by smaller paintings done "en plein air" in the north Georgia mountains. There are beautiful lakes in the north Georgia area, all within 3 hours drive from Atlanta, Ga. Outdoor camping was a summer and fall activity for me as a young girl living in the mountains of North Carolina. We encountered all sorts of critters, as my Dad called them, on these camping excursions. I believe those trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains allowed me to catalogue all those beautiful images of woods and lakes for my paintings!

Plein Air Painting, Cottage Georgia House Georgia Neighborhood "Spring In Session" by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

The Marietta /Cobb Museum of Art sponsored the Third Annual Plein Air Paint Out March 29th and March 30th.

As a participant, I arrived at my chosen plein air location on Saturday morning!

The gray skies were threatening rain in the afternoon so I concentrated on finishing my oil painting before the rains came!

At 2 pm, I began to wrap things up while mixing my puddles of paint with water bouncing around in my pochade box! As we have all heard before, oil and water do not mix!

I had saved the large tree in the front for the last. I managed to get a suggestion of new spring growth in a couple of areas of the tree!

I began to disassemble my tripod and pochade box which was pretty full of water as I was determined to stay there in the rain to complete the painting!

Ahh, the joys of plein air painting!!!

Here is the finished 8 x 10 oil of 26 Sessions Street!

"Gould's Corner" Original Georgia Historic Home Landscape Painting In Progress by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

"Gould's Corner in Progress 3" is a wet painting at this point. I have visited this historic southern home often and find it a real treasure! The painting is a completed work except for the final finish coat which seals the color and protects the painting. The oil architectural/landscape painting on canvas measures 12 x 12 and is painted on high quality,1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas. My signature will be added when the painting is dry to the touch.

"Gould's Corner" Original Georgia Historic Home Landscape Painting In Progress by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

I am posting the intiial stages of a new painting of a historic home in Augusta, Georgia. My intent is to help you understand the creative process. Before I toned the canvas I did a pencil sketch of the subject matter in my sketchbook. While drawing I decided on the composition for the painting and noted my light , medium, and dark values of the painting.

Check back Saturday to see the stages of development in this painting!!

"Joy in The Morning" Original Georgia Landscape With Barn Oil Painting by Georgia Artist Deanna Jaugstetter

On a recent plein air painting excursion to Smith Gilbert Gardens in Kennesaw, Georgia, I chose the site of the entrance to their vegetable garden! The small barn structure was lit by the bright morning sun beckoning me to paint it!!. I stood there in the grass getting in as much information on the canvas before the sun moved overhead altering the areas in shadow and sunlight. Back in my studio, I completed the oil landscape painting done in an impressionistic style that tells you that it is a Deanna Jaugstetter painting ! I am happy with my landscape oil painting and hope you enjoy it , too!
