Abstract Landscape, Red Sky, Contemporary Impressionist Landscape Painting, Meadow, Trees, Fine Art Oil Painting,“Meadow on the Mesa” by Colorado Contemporary Fine Artist Jody Ahrens

Nothing ends a perfect winter day like watching a dramatic Alpenglow sky from a comfortable chair beside a crackling fire. This phenomenon occurs in high altitudes, when there are ice crystals in the air that magnify the color of a sun that is just below the horizon.

Red Sky, Small Impressionist Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x8x1.5" Oil

My friend Kathy Garvey, or maybe it was her brother Pat, took the most beautiful series of photos of a sunset.  The sun is shown in several positions, peaking out from behind clouds, over the ocean.

My plan is to do two or three of these as a series, showing the movement of the sun behind the clouds.  This is number 1

My thanks go out to Pat and Kathy, for being to generous with their photos and allowing me to use them as a reference.
