This charming scene presented itself late one afternoon as I was taking the long way home on a winding, dirt back road in Ridgway, Colorado. The sun was rapidly setting, so I had to settle for a photograph.

They travel favorite routes to water, hunting grounds and back to the safety of their lair.

My favorite little pond on Colorado's Grand Mesa is in constant transition. No longer Summer, not quite Winter, the stately pines are the only constant ... always green. This painting was chosen for the 2018 Colorado Governor's show.

Such a perfect day on the Grand Mesa. Grasses gently swaying in the warm summer breeze, birds singing and a family of ravens playing in the wind currents. They actually practice precision flying acrobatics. This day mom and dad were teaching an "out of sync" offspring.

Returning home from a painting trip with an artist friend, he stopped the car, pointing off to the left. "There's a painting I'll be you've never done ... right at the top of your driveway". I couldn't resist the challenge. It was a great lesson to see the beauty in an ordinary scene.

We were following a small animal trail along the West rim of Ute Canyon, climbing over dead trees and ducking under low hanging tree limbs.when this scene suddenly emerged. Nothing ends a perfect winter day like watching a dramatic Alpenglow sky from a comfortable chair beside a crackling fire. This phenomenon occurs in high altitudes, when there are ice crystals in the air that magnify the color of a sun that is just below the horizon.

The tall mature trees and large body of marshy water provide a perfect habitat for Bald Eagles. They build their nests high in the tree tops, giving them excellent visibility of their domain and plenty of distance from human intruders.

When the bare branches on trees collect moisture during an exceptionally cold, damp winter night, they appear as a frosty greenish/blue mass in the early dawn. It’s a beautiful, surreal fairyland that makes the red tops of dormant bushes along the pond seem even brighter.
