Playing with Paint, Abstract Oil Painting, 8x8x3" Original Oil, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting

Today is gray, foggy and damp, so I decided to post the most fun painting I could find.

Purchase here

You know how I love color and texture and this little painting has it all.

I painted it on a 8x8x3" canvas, so even the shape is unique.  It's chunky and cute and it resides on a bookshelf , where it brightens the whole room.  I cannot help but smile each time I look at it.

The canvas was a mistake.  I did not realize how deep it was when I ordered it.  What could I possibly do with it?  Well, for this painting, I think it is perfect!

Have a fantastic day!

Landscape Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Clinging to the World, 8x8x1.5" Original Oil, SOLD

This was a painting, I enjoyed creating!  I don't know why, but some days every brushstroke is a struggle, and a few times, everything just falls into place.

For me, this was a" fall into place day".

SOLD

Good days and bad days.  In the studio and out.  That is the way of life.  So, I try to enjoy the          "good" and not let the" bad" become overwhelming.

Here's hoping today is a "Good" day for you!

Thanks for checking out my blog today!

Tropical Landscape Painting, Palm Tree Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 8x16" Original Oil Painting

Another piece inspired by the Florida Keys, and one of those glorious sunsets!

Purchase here

I remember this spot well.  We were at an open air restaurant on the water's edge.  Very laid back with this beautiful scene before us.  When I say we were on the water's edge, I mean where the restaurant stopped, (no walls, just a roof) the water started!  How could we not enjoy our meal?

I don't remember what I ate, or the name of the place, but I do remember it was on the ocean side on Marathon Key.  If I could find it again, I would go in a minute, just to experience the atmosphere and enjoy a glass of wine.

Sigh!

Sky Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x8x1.5" Oil Painting

An early morning beach photo shoot was the inspiration for this piece.  Thank you to Pat Garvey for sharing his image with me.

One of the biggest problems of selling art online, is representing your art with correct colors.  I didn't realize how big a problem this would be.

I tried for over an hour to edit this piece correctly, and was only partially successful.    Blues seem to be the colors that always give me problems in my photography.

The image above is washed out compared to the actual piece, which is sitting here next to me.  My problem was trying to get the blue gray on the lower right corner to read correctly...which is right on with my monitor.  But that means I have lost some beautiful warm rust and mauve hues in the dark cloud.

In this detail, the mauves and orangey rust shades are correct, but the blue on the right side is way too strong. Also the pale yellows are not warm enough.  What to do?  I have no answers.

Even if I am able to get the colors correct on my monitor, they may not be what you are seeing on your monitor.

So I do my best to represent what I see and offer my customers a full refund if they are unhappy.

I think most buyers understand this issue as fortunately, I have not had a painting returned in almost 10 years.

If any of you have a solution, I would love to hear it.

After writing this post, I tried again to edit my image, and finally have settled on this as the best representation of the painting.  It is better, but still does not reflect all the color variations.

Still missing mauve and purple colors in the dark cloud area and aqua tints behind the pelican.

Abstract Sunset Painting, Textured Sunset Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x8x1.5" Original Oil

I didn't mean to paint this!  I decided to do an abstract, with nothing in particular in mind, and almost without my help, this sunset appeared.

Sunsets are one of my recurring themes and it just kind of happened before I knew it.  Usually it does not happen that way for me.  Usually, I struggle, I scrape, I try and try again.  Sometimes I pull it off to my liking....sometimes I do not.

So on those few occassions, when I am happy without the anguish, I say a little "thank you" and put away my paints for the day.

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Mountain Sunset Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Blue Ridge Sunset" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" Oil SOLD

This mountain sunset painting is a result of our most recent trip to Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.  We were there for the beautiful leaf viewing season, and it was spectacular!  We came home to Florida on Halloween and missed the incredible 22" of snow that accumulated the next day.  I am sure that cut the leaf season short.

The leaves were not the only spectacular sight!  I find the mountains as fascinating as the ocean with it's constantly changing moods.

This is me, having fun!!

This month, we will be making our first winter trip to our North Carolina home....I am hoping to see that beautiful landscape covered in snow.

Here in Florida, we don't have falling leaves, or snow.  That has not stopped us from getting in the Christmas spirit.  If you have an art lover on your list, check out my Etsy shop.  I have a large selection of original paintings as well as gift certificates.

Impressionist Landscape Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Golden Hour:, 6x8" Oil

I am trying to capture that moment when the whole world has a golden glow.  My image showed a live oak, draped in spanish moss with the sun setting in the background.

I struggled a lot with the colors.  Not sure I got it right.

This is a subject that I intend to revisit.  I have just returned from a Elio Comacho workshop and will try to apply some of his techniques to this landscape.

Daily Painting, Abstract Landscape, "Lighting the Heavens" by Carol Schiff, 12x24x.75" Oil

In this painting, my goal was to capture that magic moment when the sun just peeks through the horizon and night turns to day.

For me, that is the best moment.......knowing I have a brand new day to enjoy.

I did my favorite palette knife technique (which I have labeled color weaving) on this.  I find it gives me a great way to blend from one color to another.

"Ridge Line" 6x12" Palette Knife Painting SOLD

It is hard to beat the beauty of the mountains, especially when the sun is setting.

We were enjoying dinner at a friend's house when the sun put on this wonderful display.  The watercolor sky was impossible to ignore and the trees on the ridge appeared on fire as the sun dropped behind the mountain.

Sunsets are truly one of life's jewels.  Enjoy!

Impressionism Seascape Sunset Oil Painting "Fire in The Sky" by Florida Impressionism Artist Annie St Martin

Fire In The Sky is an oil painting in the palette knife technique. On a hot, late afternoon summer day, the sun started to set with an explosion of color. Quickly it slipped away. I was so happy to have seen it.

Sunset Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Sunset in Costa Rico" by Carol Schiff, 8x10" Oil Framed

This photo does not really do it justice, but it is as good as I could get.  I don't like selling framed paintings because of the difficulty involved in shipping them, but decided to make this an exception to the rule.

happy new year to you all!!!

Small Oil Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Landscape | Into the Woods by Carol Schiff | 6x6x1.5" Oi

In this small oil painting, I tried to capture that brief moment in time when the sun drops behind the horizon and backlights a grouping of trees.

I wanted to leave this with a slight whimsical feeling.  It is on 6x6x1.5" gallery wrap canvas with the sides painted black, allowing it to be hung with or without a frame.  Don't you just love gallery wrap?

I also wanted to show you this neat image a client sent me.  She purchased one of my prints on wood panel and liked it so much, she ultimately ordered another, larger, print of the same scene.  She sent me an image of it hanging in her room.  Thank you Kim... I have headboard envy!!

Hope you have a wonderful day!
