Marsh Landscape with herons, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 9x12x.75" Oil SOLD

This little painting on linen, is a study for a 30x40" commission that I am working on.

SOLD

I painted several small studies, until the client was happy with the composition.

I think this has a slightly "romantic"feel about it, quite different than my usual pieces.  I kept the brushwork and the colors softer than my usual works.

When I first started painting, there were so many rules to learn.  I never knew what the finished piece would look like and usually started without a specific feel in mind.  After all these years, I am finally feeling a little control in my work, but, oh so much more to learn!

I know for me, this is the appeal of painting, always trying to challenge myself and escalate my skills.  Very frustrating and also very rewarding and ALWAYS interesting!

Have a great day!

Florida Wildlife Egret Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting,

One of the joys, of living in Florida, was the abundant wildlife.  It was thrilling to view these majestic birds, almost daily, from my window.

This one was painted from a photograph, as are most of my work.  He had some glorious shadows on him that I could not ignore.

This is one of those few paintings, that seemed to come easily.  It has left me eager to return to the easel, re-charged and ready to tackle my next project.  I love it when that happens!!

Sky Painting, Small Oil Painting, Daily Painting, 8x8x1.5" Oil Painting

An early morning beach photo shoot was the inspiration for this piece.  Thank you to Pat Garvey for sharing his image with me.

One of the biggest problems of selling art online, is representing your art with correct colors.  I didn't realize how big a problem this would be.

I tried for over an hour to edit this piece correctly, and was only partially successful.    Blues seem to be the colors that always give me problems in my photography.

The image above is washed out compared to the actual piece, which is sitting here next to me.  My problem was trying to get the blue gray on the lower right corner to read correctly...which is right on with my monitor.  But that means I have lost some beautiful warm rust and mauve hues in the dark cloud.

In this detail, the mauves and orangey rust shades are correct, but the blue on the right side is way too strong. Also the pale yellows are not warm enough.  What to do?  I have no answers.

Even if I am able to get the colors correct on my monitor, they may not be what you are seeing on your monitor.

So I do my best to represent what I see and offer my customers a full refund if they are unhappy.

I think most buyers understand this issue as fortunately, I have not had a painting returned in almost 10 years.

If any of you have a solution, I would love to hear it.

After writing this post, I tried again to edit my image, and finally have settled on this as the best representation of the painting.  It is better, but still does not reflect all the color variations.

Still missing mauve and purple colors in the dark cloud area and aqua tints behind the pelican.

Thanks for reading my blog today.

Sometimes I don't know why I decide to paint what I do, something just speaks to me and off I go.
One day as I was contemplating my blank canvas I came across a photo of this powerful moose and just felt the need to paint him or her as the case may be. Perhaps it is just a warm up for the show we are going to host at Brushstrokes that will be all animal paintings for First Friday in October. I can't wait to look for more subject matter as animals are such an important part of my world, the world and exciting to paint.

Majestic Migration by Pam Holnback

In Flight
6" x 6" oil on panel
$100.00  $10. s/h

Last month my husband and I went to Monte Vista, Colorado, in the southern part of the state, to see the sandhill crane migration.  During the month of March 20 - 25,000 cranes migrate through, and spend a good part of the month loading up on fuel in preparation for the continuation of the flight north.   At any given time there are about 10,000 - 11,000 greater sandhill cranes at the Monte Vista Wildlife Refuge.
