Florida Wildlife Egret Oil Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting,
One of the joys, of living in Florida, was the abundant wildlife. It was thrilling to view these majestic birds, almost daily, from my window.

| detail This is one of those few paintings, that seemed to come easily. It has left me eager to return to the easel, re-charged and ready to tackle my next project. I love it when that happens!!  |

Sandhill Crane by Pam Holnback

I really wanted to see what the sandhill cranes from the Monte Vista Wildlife Refuge looked like close up. That's pretty hard to do unless you have a very long lens, which I don't. My lens is great for normal shots and it zooms quite a bit. At the refuge there were photographers with lenses that looked to be about 12 inches long.
The sandhill cranes make a very deep rolling trumpet and rattling sound. And when thousands of them are creating this cacophony of music, it's like an outdoor orchestra. You can google "sandhill crane sounds" and hear them for yourself! I did!

Majestic Migration by Pam Holnback

Last month my husband and I went to Monte Vista, Colorado, in the southern part of the state, to see the sandhill crane migration. During the month of March 20 - 25,000 cranes migrate through, and spend a good part of the month loading up on fuel in preparation for the continuation of the flight north. At any given time there are about 10,000 - 11,000 greater sandhill cranes at the Monte Vista Wildlife Refuge.
