Owl Painting, Original Western Landscape Painting, Wildlife Art,  "Narcissus at the Stock Tank" by Artist Nancee Jean, Painter of the American West

FRESH OFF THE EASEL

There's a stock tank and windmill on our little western Colorado ranchero. I've seen some pretty amazing things happen at the stock tank. This hawk spent quite a bit of time around the tank on an early fall day last year. She was up on the windmill, walking the rim of the tank, and then catching a glimpse of her reflection and freaking out. It reminded me of the Greek myth about Narcissus, who gazed at his reflection in a pond with such ardor that the gods turned him into a flower, a narcissus, so he could live at the water's edge forever.

Original Wildlife, Bird, Landscape Painting "Cormorants, Drying Their Wings on the Madison River" by Western Landscape Painter Nancee Jean Busse

Cormorants are fascinating; almost prehistoric in their appearance. I discovered this pair while driving with my husband along the Madison River in Yellowstone National Park.

Original Swan Painting "Perfect Landing" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

I loved painting this apparently clumsy landing of a swan. The title, Perfect Landing, is tongue in cheek.

Wildlife Art, Cat, Mountain Lion Painting "SUNRISE, MCELMO CANYON" by Nancee Jean Busse ,Painter of the American West

This painting is titled "Sunrise, McElmo Canyon." It's of the beautiful mountain lion I photographed at the Triple D photo shoot down in Cortez. The sun was beginning to pour into the canyon and the puma turned her head to look into the rising sun. It was a perfect moment! How could I NOT paint it?

Daily Painting, Seagull Painting, "The Three Stooges" by Carol Schiff, 6x8 Oil,

The three birds in today's daily painting look a little goofy to me.  Maybe they are hungry, or maybe they are plotting against another, but I just don't trust them.

Purchase here

They remind me of my childhood and the notorious "Three Stooges", Larry, Moe and Curly.
You remember them don't you?  They were always getting into trouble.

They are looking at a fourth seagull....not in this painting, and I don't think it is in a friendly manner!  I hope to do a second painting of this group, including the fourth member.

The reference photo was shared from Shelley Smart at her wonderful blog here.  Shelley is a fantastic photographer and generous too.  She gave me permission to use her image years ago.  I hope you will visit her interesting blog, "A Year at the Beach", where she recorded the activity on the beach every day.

Duck Painting, Wildlife Painting, "Just Hanging Out" by Carol Schiff, 6x8" oil

I found this little girl duck at Nantahala Outdoor Center, in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains, just hanging out on a rock in the river.

Purchase here

She seemed quite content!  Pretty surprising when you see what was going on 50 yards down the river...

International Kayak competition!  The ducks were not annoyed.........

This setting seems to suit the painting a little more.

Enjoy your day!

"Coyote and Sage" Original Wildlife, Coyote Painting by Colorado Western Landscape Painter Nancee Jean Busse

I spied this coyote behind my studio early on a summer morning. He was warily walking toward the studio in the shafts of light between the sagebrush.
