Original Lake Powell Landscape Painting "The End of Davis Gulch" by Nancee Jean Busse Painter of the American West

Lake Powell is a magically beautiful place. The Glen Canyon dam was completed in 1966 in spite of the impassioned protests of environmentalists, naturalists, historians, and archeologists. There is still much controversy, and it is estimated that approximately 8% of the Colorado River’s water is lost due to evaporation and seepage from Lake Powell. Lake Powell is a popular recreation and houseboating destination now. My husband and I went to Lake Powell in 2008. We floated into the silent canyons on glassy, still water, thinking of what was beneath us. The skies were crystal clear and the night sky was black and filled with stars that were reflected on the still water. Davis Gulch is one of the hundreds of canyons in Lake Powell. This was where the final sighting of Everett Reuss took place in 1934.

 Acrylic 48"×60"

This painting is sold, however,  Fine Art Prints are available HERE

Western Landscape Painting, Grand Canyon "WOTAN'S THRONE" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

This is one of the more spectacular views from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. My husband I were there in 2014 with good friends. When I painted this I needed the comfort of painting something small and purely representational. It's like putting together a jigsaw puzzle; I put it together one small piece at a time! And it represents a wonderful memory of good times with friends.

The road between Redstone, Colorado and Marble, Colorado is a breathtaking drive. You are surrounded by magnificent fourteeners , aspen covered hillsides, and golden meadows where horses, cattle, and elk graze peacefully. How could I not want to paint this?!

Original Colorful Fairgrounds Colorado Landscape "County Fair" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

Grand Junction, Colorado, has a typically wonderful small town county fair. I loved the bright, circus-like colors of the midway in front of the Bookcliffs. The air was hazy and full of the dust of the bull riding event.

Original Colorado Landscape Painting "The Palisade at Gateway" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse, Painter of the American West

A beautiful palisade overlooks picturesque Gateway, Colorado. My husband and I hiked up a canyon behind Gateway Canyons resort on a fine autumn day and I loved the brilliant yellow rabbit brush against the red rock edifice.

Original Red Rocks Landscape Painting "Red Rocks,Blue Heron" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

The canyons in Lake Powell are full of wonder and mystery. My husband and I were floating back from Davis Gulch and this blue heron followed our course for a while, perching on rocks and observing as we drifted by. Beautiful day; beautiful memory.

Colorado Winter Snow Landscape Pastel Painting "Alone But Not Lonely" by Colorado Artist Nancee Jean Busse

This Colorado landscape is one of my favorite paintings. A pastel, it depicts a house that is part of an old, abandoned mining camp on Red Mountain Pass above Ouray, Colorado. Buried deep, deep in snow it looked to me as if it was sleeping.
