Fossil Rim Bluebonnets by Sheri Jones

Fossil Rim Bluebonnets
9x12 oil on Raymar canvas panel

I painted this today on the outskirts of Fossil Rim in Glen Rose.  Fossil Rim is a wildlife center and filled with wild animals and wildflowers.
I met my friends, Jill Randall, Joyce Thomas and Vickie Guthrie there to enjoy the warm temperatures and seasonal flowers. The flowers are in full bloom and just spectacular this year.  They are a sight to see and enjoy. We were thrilled to be outside painting together. This is available for purchase $250.00

KM2754 Silent Thoughts by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney

Wow, I have not posted for quite a while now. It has been crazy keeping up with my regular gallery business which has taken me away from my internet business, but I am not complaining as it is all good! This painting is one I am thinking about using in the Colorado Governor's Invitational held next month in Loveland, CO. I am painting several from which to choose from for the show, unless this gets sold here! I am so grateful it is spring, the days are longer and I am savoring the sweet scent of new spring flowers when I walk Farley. It energizes me for this all the paintings I am planning. 12"x5" unframed original oil

Pawley's Island Painting by Jill Saur

The smell of the ocean breeze and the lush inland marshes are what I love about Pawleys Island in South Carolina. This is a fairly new oil palette knife painting that I rendered in cobalt and turquoise blues.

"Dancing on Water" textured oil painting by Niki Gulley

"Dancing on Water" ©2012 Niki Gulley
36” x 60” textured oil painting

Sunlight sparkles across aqua blue water,
diamonds of purple glitter the pond’s surface;
water lilies lift their faces toward the sun and gently dance across the water.
Golden sunlight filters through the brambles and ferns,
a touch of cardinal red peeks through purple and pink foliage
while azure skies reflect in the water.

Low Tide 10" x 10" Palette Knife Abstract Landscape by California Artist Janet Bludau

Bits of red underpainting show through.  This painting is a combination of palette knife and brushwork.
The Newport Beach Back Bay was my inspiration for this painting.
The bay changes its look often as the tide goes in and out.  Also depending on the season (yes, California DOES have seasons!) you may find it quite colorful!

Today I went out into the desert by my home. I found this little spot in a wash during the morning. I needed to simplify the wash with a more solid shadow and less rocks keeping it less busy.

Monet's Garden painting by Niki Gulley & upcoming Art Trek to Paris

SOLD • "Radiance" ©2012 Niki Gulley
Three 48" x 30" canvases to form a 48" x 90" triptych
textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Just sold! I decided it would be a fun challenge to create an extremely large painting, and I wanted the final piece to be very uplifting, colorful and full of energy. Opting for warm colors and working with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives, I chose this lily pond reference from our visit to Monet's Gardens in Giverny, France. The grounds were breathtaking and I could actually see his paintings come to life. I was drawn to the energetic flow and yet calming serenity in this view, and I positioned the water lilies and my paint strokes in a circular pattern to add to that mood. The morning light peeking through the distant foliage added to a sense of mystery and promise that I wanted to capture in paint, and share with you that feeling of hope.

Field oil landscape by Arizona artist Becky Joy

The Path 9x12 oil sold

Hello everyone!

This morning I went out painting at North Mountain Park in Phoenix. I found a place in a wash to paint the wash and a palo verde tree. I found it to very frustrating. I had no yellow in my paints. Not good! I tried, but it was just too limited of a palette, especially trying to create sunlight. So, I wiped some of the painting off and have a simple composition. I decided I will go out there tomorrow and try it again. I made sure and got the yellow in my backpack now. After all that, I came back to the studio and painted another painting.

This painting is reminiscent of a Montana scene that I saw of a fence off in a field. I worked with the composition and came up with the path leading to the break of the fence and into the woods. This gives a sense of mystery. I wanted the feeling of full afternoon sun.

“Autumn Gems” ©2012 Niki Gulley
36” x 60” textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

I wanted this painting to be about the power and energy in nature to invigorate your spirit, so I chose to use warm vivid colors and thick staccato strokes to add to that feeling. I placed the foliage in diagonal sweeping shapes to create a sense of movement, and so that you can feel the wind gently rustling the leaves and causing them to dance.

Aspen Oil Painting commission by Niki Gulley

“Autumn Splendor" ©2012 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 30" x 48" textured oil on canvas

This commissioned painting was based on an earlier painting that I'd created of this aspen forest, but my new collectors needed a larger, narrower painting to fit their space. They fell in love with the thick texture of the aspen bark and the vibrant color in the fall foliage that I recreated with extremely thick oil paint and palette knives. The completed painting shimmers with gentle autumn breezes and a quiet energy of change coming. Crisp fall mountain air, clean bright skies overhead, a band of slender straight trunks cut bright strokes of white against a dazzling tumble of green, crimson and gold.

KMD2748 You Say What? (original oil painting by Kit Hevron Mahney

I finally got back to the easel this week after returning from my trip to Kauai. I photographed this little fellow in between rain showers while getting a tour of the beautiful island.
