Today’s journal entry is of the Greek Islands. I took a cruise around the islands with my dearest artist pals a few years ago, great fun!

This image is from the island of Myconos, an island I had been to before, but still remains a favorite of mine.

I used my larger 8” x 10” Stillman Birn journal for this one.

Journal Entry From the French Alps and Switzerland..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Annecy is in the French Alps. This town was a part of the workshop I taught in the Alps recently.

We stayed here as well as Geneva (Switzerland) and Combloux in wonderful hotels. And the scenery was to die for!!

So back to Annecy, known as the 'Little Venice of the French Alps' and you can see why, I think. Lots of canals and reflections, just perfect for the artist in me!

We did a LOT of shopping here as well, so many interesting stores and markets to stroll.

I will have very fond memories of this workshop and my students, they all did an amazing job , but then it was very inspiring for any artist!

Painting Workshop in France With Rae Andrews

Bon Jour  everyone,

I'd like to invite you to join me on  this very special painting trip. 

I'm taking a group of artists to paint the beautiful south west of France in May 2017.

                                I've been so fortunate to be invited to fill one of the spaces for at Le Vieux                                        Couvent a 17th century convent and now a well known Artists Retreat. 

It is a fabulous place, renowned for its friendly hospitality ,beautiful gardens , bright airy studio                                           and of course the excellent food. 

I cannot rave enough about this venue, it is simply an artist haven!

Every corner of the gardens is a painting vignette.

The village atmosphere is quiet and charming, away from the 'maddening crowds'. 

We will get looked after royally, gourmet meals and tours to places for our painting, as well as access to a great studio at the convent.

                 of them come again and again and have been very generous with comments.

RAE'S STORY..

A full time artist I work and teach in all mediums. Oils, Pastels, Watercolor, Acrylics.

I am an Aussie ex-pat, a past owner of a 400 student art school in Sydney, Australia, two art galleries on the island of Maui, and been teaching art for over 45 years.

I LOVE the freshness of leaving the white of the paper with my watercolors.

I am an intuitive artist, and consider myself playful with my works, always trying to challenge my creativity, however always mindful of design, color and values. I believe this makes my work unique and exciting for my viewer. I show techniques and tools with which the artist can  be minimal in their approach, and not get caught in all the details.

This workshop is designed for all levels of experience. Students will work en plein air in both painting and sketching, coming away from this fun week with a myriad  of ideas for use in their own works. Although this workshop is a watercolor workshop and Rae's demos will be in this medium, Rae welcomes other media and offers instruction in them all.
