While out photographing the wildflowers at Crested Butte a few summers ago, we came upon a herd of sheep wandering with their herder on the road. My eyes met this fellow's eyes and his ears seem to express his surprise and curiosity!

I have photographed this scene many times while visiting Crested Butte, Colorado during the wildflower season in July. It is one of the most spectacular areas in Colorado where the hills are literally seas of color. I don't know why I have waited so long to paint this particular shot since I have stopped at this same sight every year to capture it with my camera. Finally, I have interpreted it on canvas!

As I am getting back to doing the smaller daily paintings I am going through my plethora of photographs from years past. There are so many fun paintings to be done from all the travels I have photographed that it is hard to choose. As spring seems so late this year I am sure I responded to the intense color and beauty of this scene near Gothic outside of Crested Butte during the wildflower season. Sometimes I wonder if anyone who has not seen this scene can believe it is really this colorful, but indeed it is.
