Snowy Range was done in oils and part of a study.  I did learn some strokes and like the way it came out. The painting is signed and not framed.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Colorado Wildflowers, Flower Painting, 8x10x1.5" Oil, Colorado Kansas Line

Years ago, I lived in both Colorado and Kansas, but I don't remember these wildflowers that I found growing everywhere, when I visited there last year.

They must have been there, but a visit is different than a young woman, raising a family and working full time.

Sorry for the glare on this image.

I added great swirls of texture to the canvas before painting, trying to capture the feel of  flowers swaying in the breeze.

Can you tell I was facing east when I took this shot?  In Colorado (at least where I was) when you face west you see the Rockies, when you face east, you see the prairie.

Thanks for reading my blog today.....and keep painting!!

Since I have been painting for 30 years now, I have accumulated a large inventory of great works that need to find new homes and make room for new creations in the studio. Afternoon Snow is one of my sale paintings and the price reflects the 35% discount. This scene seems appropriate to post today as Denver is finally getting some much needed snow after many spring like days in February! KMD2333 North Park Vista by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (6x8 oil landscape North Park, CO)

It has been such a busy year that I haven't posted in months. I have been spending a lot of time experimenting with abstraction. I will start posting those in the New Year but meanwhile, here is a fun expression of a summer scene in North Park. This piece is 6"x8" with expressive, less detailed brushwork.  6”x8” unframed original oil
$125.00 + $10.00 shipping and handling

KMA2974 Unfolding by Colorado fine artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (10x10, acrylic, abstract floral still life painting)

This still life abstract painting was created using layer upon layer of acrylic on a textured 1" panel board. It was created intuitively from memories of the many pastel floral still life paintings I created in pastels years ago. This is one of the abstracts shown last month in my solo show here at Brushstrokes Studio-Gallery in Denver, CO. I used complimentary colors of blues and oranges to create a real atmosphere with the darker background enhancing the poppy like flowers flowing out of the dark vase. These intuitive paintings do challenge me after the many years of painting from my photo reference where there is an end in sight! 10"x10" original acrylic on 1" panel board $450 + $25 shipping and handling See more paintings on my blog Visit my website Daily Painters of Colorado

KM2985 by Colorado contemporary artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (16x8 oil painting on linen, floral)

This floral was created to hang in my show last month as one in a series of 3 florals in the strong vertical format which gives some interesting and new compositional approaches. I love capturing a moment in time when photographing close up giving such importance to just one or two flowers as opposed to a landscape. Be on the look out for a new series from my trip last week to Crested Butte, Colorado where I spent 4 days photographing perhaps every flower blooming there!

KM2984 Paradise Revisited by Colorado artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (16x8, oil, floral, garden, poppy)

Here is a return to the past as I still love painting poppies. I thought a tall vertical would be a fun composition. It was painted for my recent solo show at Brushstrokes Studio. I enjoyed revisiting an old friend in the form of a local Denver garden reference that I never tire of painting from.

KM2980 Twilight’s Magic by Colorado Artist Kit Hevron Mahoney (30x40, oil, landscape, Moab, Southern Utah, sunset, dusk)

I came upon this scene on the way into Moab,Utah last October just as the sun had dropped behind the mountains. It was a magical moment filled with a rainbow of saturated purples, blues and reds. I had to paint this with a brush rather than palette knife as this piece isn't about texture but about expressing the calm magic of twilight when all the busyness of the day’s events set with the sun. For me it is the best time of day as the world seemingly comes to a halt and peace reigns.
