Journal Entry,Texas..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I have done this scene before in pastels.

I decided I would like to make it a journal entry as well, this time in watercolor. It’s a scene very dear to my heart, as I pass it almost daily when I walk my puppies.

I did embellish the colors a little, Texas is not that showy with FALL COLORS, so I gave it some help. 😊

The journal is a Stillman Birn ( Beta Series) journal. 8” x 10” and I used both pages for this image.

I hope you enjoy these journal entries, more to come soon.

Rae teaches in all media. please contact Rae through this blog or her website for more info.

I did this painting with a limited palette of Cadmium Orange,Yellow Orche,Black and some white.  Very challenging and lots of fun.  You have to think about values when doing a limited palette. I will do this again with another limited palette.

"Autumn Whisper" by Kyle Wood

"Autumn Whisper" - 11" x 14" Oil on Canvas
This painting is based on some photographs from a trip to Lost Maples State Natural Area in November 2008. The fall folliage that year was exceptionally good, due to cooler and dryer
air that penetrated through the State of Texas. Normally, Texas does not have many opportunities to see good fall color, because we typically have too many days that warm and humid almost up to the beginning of winter. The painting above is depiction of one the ponds along the walking and hiking trails of the state park. I titled this painting "Autumn Whisper", because Lost Maples is truly a natural state park area that is very peaceful and quiet. The park is located in a remote area of the Texas Hill Country near Vanderpool, Texas. It is quite rocky and there is alot of steep hill country terrain in this area. I really like how the golds, reds, and oranges of the sawtooth maples played against the greens of summer. This is perhaps one of most spectacular state parks that I have ever visited and would love to take another trip here.
I liked how the painting turned out, so I chose to enter it into the 2010 PaintAmerica's mini 50 competition (paintings 11" x 14" or smaller) back in November. All the entries were recently juried by panel, made up of national artists and scored on an scale. Fortunately, my entry scored high enough, that it was selected as one of the finalist! Now, I will preparing the painting to be shipped off for a traveling exhibition. The first exhibit will be at The Coutts Museum in El Dorado, Kansas. The show will continue to travel from here to various museums and cultural centers through the early part of 2012. It is indeed an honor to be selected as one of the finalist! There will be many opportunities for national exposure thorough some America's finest Museums, some of which are located in our National Parks and great tourist destinations. This will be my second opportunity to showcase my work through the PaintAmerica Association. This competition attracts many artists across America, who predominately paint nature, landscapes, wildlife, architectural, portraiture, and figure. The criteria for submitting is that represents the beauty and the some facet of America. Since, I predominately paint landscapes and architectural subjects, I have found this competition to be a good show to enter.

"Autumn Evening Glow" by Janice Wright

Acrylic on Standard-width Canvas
ready to be framed

8" x 10"

This painting was inspired by a trip to nearby Cherry Creek State Park to shoot the coloured leaves at twilight.
I spent about an hour shooting the cottonwoods, and the sunlight on the reservoir and was starting to leave the park as it was getting dark. As I drove up the road leading out of the park the setting sun bathed my world in the most delicious, warm light. I stopped my car on the road and did a 360 with my camera on power wind. It was that kind of light that you wait all day to see, and have seconds to react to its effects.

Price: $175.00 + 15.00 S & H in the continental US.
Please contact me for shipping costs outside of the US.
