For this painting I used a photo that I took while in South Lake Tahoe in 2012. Since most of the composition is in the shade of the setting sun, I consider it a nocturne painting. I chose this small canvas size because I feel that it is much more intimate than a larger canvas. I have very fond memories of South Lake Tahoe. It's where my family and I have spent every summer for the last 25 years. After seeing the landscape covered in snow for the first time, I knew it would make a great painting.

This painting was done on location at Lafayette Reservoir in Lafayette, California in 2012. I loved the different elevations of hills in this landscape. As I was painting the landscape transformed from foggy and grey to sunny and vibrant. I tried to translate that into this painting by using both color palettes, vibrant light in the foreground and blue hues for the background. I find that plein air painting best captures the transformation of landscapes and true colors of nature. Something that a photograph will not capture.

It's my goal to see and paint as many California landscapes as possible. I love how diverse each area of California can be. On my recent trip to San Juan Island, WA we visited a lavender farm. It was beautiful. A nice relaxing spot to enjoy and explore a bit. The fragrant air, the slight buzz from all the bees doing what they do best and the color of the fields. I reaaallly wanted to set up my easel and paint but I didn't have it with me - nor did we have the time to stay. So I took lots of pictures and painted this. I love the colors and the textures in this one.

Having had a quiet house and some time to myself on Christmas Eve, I put on some Christmas music and painted this. We had a beautiful snow fall a couple weeks ago and this is my version of some of the beauty from that. In reality these trees have houses tucked in and around them but I opted to leave them out. It was a perfect way to spend the afternoon and evening.

The foothills and the peak of Mount Diablo in the East San Francisco Bay area is a landmark; it stands by itself over the Diablo Valley.  This was painted in the company of some great artists, a wonderful group of painters based in the area.  There is some texture in the brushstrokes, and the beautiful greys complement the warm colored slopes.  Clouds always catch at the top of Mount Diablo.  This landscape painting would appeal to many for a serene landscape scene.
